HELSINKI, Jan 20 (PRIME) -- The idea of building a high-speed railway to connect Helsinki and Moscow is interesting for Finland, Finnish Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Minister Ville Skinnari told PRIME on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Russian Railways said in a statement that its CEO Oleg Belozyorov and Skinnari discussed cooperation of the two countries in the railway sphere on January 16, including the possibility of building a Helsinki–Moscow high-speed railway.
“We recognized the necessity to improve the capacity of the existing route. It is in our interest to ensure the fastest railway connection with the Finnish side. We have a lot in common with the high-speed railway project on the Russian side,” Skinnari said.
Nevertheless, Finland would need to build new infrastructure at its part of the railway, and the cost of that is unknown, he said.
